Drove off road
An Indianapolis man drove his car off the road Thursday, causing an estimated $1,000 to $2,500 in damage.
At 8:55 a.m., Samuel E. Ball, 59, was driving west on county road 300 North near its intersection with State Line Road. As he entered a curve in the road, his 2017 Buick Encore went off the north side of the road into a ditch.
Rear-ended
A Portland woman rear-ended a truck with her car Thursday morning in Portland.
Melissa A. Caldwell, 50, was driving her Ford Fusion east on Main Street and was approaching its intersection with Morton Street. She told Portland Police Department she was distracted by her grandchildren in the vehicle, causing her to strike the rear of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado that Benjamin T. Antrim was driving. Antrim, 19, Portland, was stopped at the intersection.
The Silverado is registered to Laux Plumbing, Portland.
Damage in the 9:04 a.m. accident is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Lost control
A Portland woman lost control of her vehicle Wednesday morning.
Marna J. Smith, 60, was driving her 2005 Hyundai Accent north on U.S. 27. As she rounded the curve at the intersection with Bryant Pike, she lost control of her car. The Hyundai spun around and went off the road into a ditch.
Damage in the 4:50 a.m. accident is estimated to be less than $1,000.
Backing accident
A Portland man backed the ambulance he was driving into a building Sunday morning at Jay County High School.
Preston L. Bemis, 21, was backing a 1997 International Jay Emergency Medical Service ambulance into a parking space. He told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he didn’t see that he was getting too close to the Patriot Powerhouse building at the school, which is located at 2072 W. Indiana 67, Portland.
The ambulance is registered to Jay County Commissioners, Portland.
Damage in the 9:29 a.m. collision is estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.
