Felony court news

Possession 

A Portland man was sentenced in Jay Superior Court for a drug possession charge. 

Shaun M. Gourley, 37, 119 E. North St., pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony. He was sentenced to Jay County Jail for 18 months with all but nine months suspended and given six days credit for three days served. He was also given credit for time served from Jan. 3. Gourley was assessed court costs of $185, placed on formal probation for nine months and ordered to pay a drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee of $200 and a substance abuse program fee of $400. As part of a plea agreement, charges of driving while suspended, a Class A misdemeanor, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor, were dismissed. 



Possession 

A Portland woman pleaded guilty in Jay Superior Court to a drug possession charge. 

Alivia M. Maitlen, 18, 2693 W. Foxfire Drive, pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony. She was sentenced to Jay County Jail for one year with all but 30 days suspended and given 14 days credit for seven days served. She was fined $1, assessed court costs of $185, placed on formal probation for 11 months and ordered to pay a drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee of $200 and a substance abuse program fee of $200. 



Trial set 

A trial has been scheduled in Jay Circuit Court for a Muncie man. 

Jason T. Williams, 48, 1619 W. 8th St., is facing a charge of nonsupport of a dependent child, a Class C felony. His two-day jury trial is scheduled for June 29 as a third setting and Aug. 1 as a first setting. 

Probation violation 

A Portland woman was sentenced in Jay Superior Court to additional jail time for violating her probation. 

Blazelyn G. Shaneyfelt, 1119 W. North St., was found in violation of her probation on the charge of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony. She was ordered to serve an additional six months of the sentence imposed on Oct. 8 and was given credit for time served from Feb. 12. Her probation was terminated unsuccessfully. 



Trial scheduled 

A Portland woman’s trial has been scheduled in Jay Circuit Court after her plea agreement was rejected. 

Desiree Steveson, 31, 5870 E. Indiana 26, pleaded guilty to possession of a narcotic drug, a Level 5 felony. According to a plea agreement, she would be sentenced to three years in the Indiana Department of Correction with all but 240 days suspended, to be served on probation. A charge of public intoxication, a Class B misdemeanor, as well as an additional misdemeanor case would be dismissed. 

The court denied the plea agreement and scheduled a two-day jury trial for June 13 as a third setting and June 26 as a first setting.



Resisting 

A Pennville man pleaded guilty in Jay Superior Court to resisting law enforcement, a Level 6 felony. 

Jerry L. Eglan, 60, 11179 W. 350 North, was sentenced to Jay County Jail for 18 months with all but eight days suspended and given eight days credit for four days served. He was assessed court costs of $185 and placed on formal probation for 539 days. Charges of battery resulting in bodily injury and three counts of pointing a firearm, Class A misdemeanors, and possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, were dismissed as part of a plea agreement. Upon successful completion of his probation, Eglan can petition the court for a reduction to a Class A misdemeanor. 



Possession, violation 

A woman was sentenced in Jay Superior Court for a drug possession charge and violating her probation. 

Jami L. Bullock, 25, whose last known address was in Dunkirk, pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony. She was sentenced to Jay County Jail for one year and given two days credit for one day served. She was also credited for time served from Dec. 10. Bullock was fined $1, assessed court costs of $185 and ordered to pay a drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee of $200. As part of a plea agreement, charges of unlawful possession of a syringe and theft, Level 6 felonies, and possession of marijuana, a Class A misdemeanor, were dismissed. 

In a separate case, Bullock was found in violation of her probation on the original charge of theft, a Level 6 felony. She was ordered to serve an additional 200 days of the sentence imposed on Sept 7. Her sentence will begin June 9, consecutive to the possession charge. Her probation was terminated unsuccessfully.
