Missing person
A Portland woman was reported missing this weekend.
Carrie A. Reedy was last seen at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at 601 S. Vine St., Portland. She is driving a white 1999 Ford pickup truck with the license plate TK242NKH. She was reported missing by her family Saturday night and Indiana State Police has been notified.
Road closing
Indiana 1 from Indiana 18 to Indiana 218 will be closed for five months as of Thursday, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation.
A major resurfacing of that seven-mile section is not expected to be complete until early October.
Milestone Contractors, Portland, will be doing the work.
One injured
Two Portland residents were involved in a vehicle collision Friday afternoon.
Emily S. Hicks, 42, was driving her 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt west on county road 200 South near its intersection with county road 300 East. Neesha R. Anderson, 42, was delivering mail in her 2005 Jeep Liberty in front of Hicks and began to slow down. Hicks told Jay County Sheriff’s Office she thought Anderson was going to pull over to the right side of the road to place mail in a mailbox. As Hicks began to pass the Jeep, Anderson started to turn left into a private drive, causing the vehicles to collide.
Hicks’ vehicle went off the south side of the road. She complained of pain in her lower leg.
Damage in the 1 p.m. accident is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Hit and run
A Portland woman’s parked car was struck by a vehicle Saturday in the Indiana University Health Jay Hospital parking lot.
According to a Portland Police Department report, a witness saw a man backing a 2005 Dodge Durango out of a parking spot at the hospital, 500 W. Votaw St., Portland. The Dodge hit the rear driver’s side of a parked 2013 Toyota Scion, registered to Carol J. Stephens, Portland. The driver of the Dodge then drove away.
According to a license plate number provided by the witness, the Dodge is registered to Amanda K. Vasquez, Winchester.
Damage in the 10:02 a.m. collision is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Deer struck
A Redkey woman hit a deer with her car Friday night, causing an estimated $2,500 to $5,000 in damage.
At 8:50 p.m., Lexi M. Steed, 22, was driving her 2017 Chevrolet Traverse southwest on Indiana 67 near its intersection with county road 700 West when a deer ran into the roadway. She was unable to avoid hitting the animal.
Mower stolen
A Bryant man reported a theft of a mower Saturday.
Jeff Myers, who lives in the east 200 block of Walnut Street, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office his push mower was missing. The mower is valued at $75.
