FAIRMOUNT — Gavin Randall finally hit his mark. It broke a record, too.

And the Patriots were the top team on Friday night.

Randall set a new meet record in the high jump and the Jay County High School boys and girls track teams both captured the trophy in the Argyll Relays at Madison-Grant High School.

The JCHS girls totaled 100 points, with Mississinewa second at 81. Alexandria scored 40 points for third place. The Patriot boys had 84 points for its first invitational title this year. Mississinewa was two points behind in second, and Alexandria finished with 51 points.

Randall, a senior, broke a meet record that stood for 17 years when he cleared 6 feet, 4 inches, which was also a new career best.

Noah Harris picked up an individual win in the 110-meter hurdles as well.

Jay County’s sprint medley relay team of Ethan Andreshak, Nathanael Day, Aaron Funkhouser and Randall was first, as was the 4x400 relay team of Isaac Robbins, Isaac Haffner, Matthew Paquette and Funkhouser.

The JCHS girls won the 4x100 relay on the efforts of Renee Omstead, Calli Stigleman, Karlie Bullard and Shea Bailey. The 4x100 hurdle relay squad of Grace Saxman, Abby Benter, Sara Hemmelgarn and Cheyenne Liette also took first place.

Omstead and Hemmelgarn joined Halle Hill and Ashlyn Dow for a victory in the 4x400 relay, and Lindy Wood, Kendal Garringer, Raven Weaver and Liette teamed for a win in the distance medley relay.

In a 4x600 co-ed relay, Jay County won on the legs of Sophia Fugiett, Skyler Myers, Hill and Paquette.
