Rear-ended
A Dunkirk man and a Geneva man were involved in a vehicle collision Thursday afternoon.
Tyler D. Smith, 31, Geneva, was driving his 2000 Pontiac Montana south on Indiana 1 and began to turn west onto county road 200 South. Martin J. Moore, 36, Dunkirk, was driving behind Smith and told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he didn’t notice that Smith was turning until it was too late. Moore’s 1988 Buick LeSabre struck the rear of Smith’s van, causing an estimated $2,500 to $5,000 in damage.
The collision occurred at 3:25 p.m.
Deer struck
A Hartford City man hit a deer with his car Friday morning, causing an estimated $2,500 to $5,000 in damage.
At 5:22 a.m., Christopher M. Cambell, 39, was driving east on Indiana 26 near its intersection with county road 1150 West when a deer ran out into the road. He was unable to avoid striking it with his 2017 Nissan Versa.
Theft
An Ohio man reported a theft from his barn on Spooky Hollow Road.
Joseph Topp, of Rossburg, Ohio, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday that someone had stolen wiring out of a barn on Spooky Hollow Road.
Hit and run
An unknown driver struck a parked car while backing out of a space Thursday in the Walmart parking lot.
According to a Portland Police Department report, a driver of a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee was backing out of a spot when the Jeep collided with a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze parked beside it. The driver of the Jeep then left the scene after putting a note with a phone number on the Cruze.
The Cruze is registered to Gary L. Weaver, Bryant.
Damage in the 12:16 p.m. collision is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
In area courts
Two Geneva residents pleaded guilty to charges in area courts.
Dustin J. Ehr, 31, 995 W. 950 South, pleaded guilty in Adams County Superior Court to operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent of 0.15 percent or more, a Class A misdemeanor — Sentenced to one year in Adams County Jail with all but two days suspended and given two days credit for time served. Assessed court costs of $385.50, placed on formal probation for one year and his license was suspended for 60 days. As part of a plea agreement, charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor; operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor; and disregarding an official traffic control device, a Class C infraction, were dismissed.
Kristie N. Pennington, 31, pleaded guilty in Wells County Superior Court to possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor — For possession of marijuana, sentenced to Wells County Jail for 180 days with all but eight days suspended. For the second charge, sentenced to 60 days with all but eight days suspended. The sentences will be served concurrently. Placed on probation for 357 days and assessed $385 in court costs and fines.
