Larry Newton, age 80, of Portland passed away Thursday evening, Nov. 7, 2019, at his residence.
He was born in Jay County on May 9, 1939, the son of Fred and Bessie (Stratton) Newton. He was married May 19, 1959, to Mary Morales and she passed away on Feb. 4, 2015.
He was owner of Newton's Plumbing and Construction for over 41 years. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and American Legion Post #211.
Surviving are one son, Ray Newton (wife: Cindy) of Portland; three daughters, Linda Tucker (husband: Richard) of Winchester, Diane Caster (husband: Chuck) of Portland and Nancy Lininger (husband: Michael) of Portland; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019, at 10 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Fr. Robert Moran presiding. Burial will follow in the Antioch Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #211. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home.
