DUNKIRK — The Eagles opened their final season in style.
West Jay Middle School’s boys basketball teams both dominated their season openers Monday, with the eighth graders topping the Burris Owls 52-25 while the seventh graders won 51-18.
Eighth grader Parker Nichols racked up 21 points for West Jay, which along with East Jay will close at the end of the school year as middle school students shift to the high school building. Liam Garringer added 15 points, and Jackson Edwards scored eight.
The Eagle seventh graders had three players reach double figures, led by Trentin Street with 16 points. Keegan Wasson followed with 14, and Ben Crouch scored 11.
EJ girls split
East Jay Middle School’s seventh grade girls basketball team knocked off the Norwell Knights 25-17 Monday in its season opener. The eighth graders lost 53-34.
Natalie Carreno tallied 10 points to lead the seventh grade Chiefs to the victory. Cassie Petro and Layliana Eldeeb added six points apiece.
Sophie Saxman poured in 21 points for the EJMS eighth grade squad. Molly Muhlenkamp followed with eight points.
Chief boys lose
The East Jay Middle School boys basketball teams both lost Monday as they opened their season against Norwell. The eighth grade team fell 47-22 while the seventh graders suffered a 46-21 defeat.
Eli Dirksen led all Chief scorers with a dozen points for the seventh grade squad. Levi Muhlenkamp followed with four points.
Sam Myers finished with seven points to pace the eighth grade team. Justin DeHoff was next with six points.
