Patriot tankers finish third at Westfield

WESTFIELD — The Patriots won the opening relay of the meet.
A pair of juniors added one individual victory apiece.
Those top finishes helped the Jay County High School girls swim team to a third-place finish Saturday at the Kristin Rice Westfield Invitational.
The Patriots scored 409 points to trail runner-up Yorktown by nine. The host Shamrocks ran away with the title with 690.
JCHS had the early lead as Rieley Brewster, Mara Bader, Eliza Bader and Dow teamed to take the 200-yard medley relay by 16 hunderedths of a second over Westfield in 1 minute, 57.41 seconds.
Eliza Bader’s individual win came in the 100 butterfly as she finished in 1:01.41 to win by more than 2.5 seconds. She was also the runner-up in the 50 freestyle.
Dow and Mara Bader went one-two in the breaststroke with the former winning in 1:13.71.
Erica Hathway, Dow and the Bader sisters were also second in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:48.58.
Adding top-five finishes were Dow (third – 100 freestyle), Mara Bader (fifth – 200 freestyle), Hathaway (fifth – 100 butterfly) and Brewster (fifth – 100 backstroke).
