INDIANAPOLIS — The Patriots begin postseason play against one of the most historically dominant teams in the state.
In the IHSAA volleyball sectional pairings show Sunday, Jay County High School received a matchup with fourth-ranked Muncie Burris.
Jay County (15-7) will play the Burris Owls (20-5), who have 22 state championships, in the first round of the Class 3A Sectional 23 tournament at approximately 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17 at Bellmont.
The most recent state title for Burris came in 2010, the last of a stretch of 14 consecutive championships.
The winner advances to meet ninth-ranked Heritage (24-3) in the semifinal, which is slated for approximately 12:30 p.m. Oct. 19.
The Norwell Knights (8-14) and No. 15 Bellmont (14-9) meet in the first game of the tournament at 6 p.m. Oct. 17. The winner meets No. 19 Delta (10-10).
The championship match is 7 p.m. Saturday.
