Possession 

A Portland man pleaded guilty in Jay Superior Court to a drug possession charge.

Cody A. Welch, 26, 204 N. Middle St., pleaded guilty to possession of a narcotic drug, a Level 6 felony. He was sentenced to one year in Jay County Jail with all but 142 days suspended and was given 142 days credit for 71 days served. He was assessed court costs of $185, placed on formal probation for seven months and ordered to pay a drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee of $200 and a substance abuse program fee of $400. As part of a plea agreement, a charge of theft, a Class A misdemeanor, was dismissed.

 

Possession  

A Portland man pleaded guilty in Jay Superior Court to possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony.

Thomas A. Paul, 34, 110 E. North St., was sentenced to one year in Jay County Jail with all but 142 days suspended. He was given 142 days credit for 71 days served. Paul was assessed court costs of $185, placed on formal probation for 223 days and was ordered to pay a substance abuse program fee of $400 and a drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee of $200.

 

Possession 

A Yorktown man pleaded guilty in Jay Circuit Court to a drug possession charge.

Ronald P. Massie II, 47, 1605 Oakdale Drive, pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine, a Level 5 felony. The court accepted his plea agreement. His sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 18.

Possession 

A Muncie man appeared in Jay Superior Court on three drug possession charges.

Joseph C. Underbrink II, 23, 2413 N. Turner St., pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony. Charges of unlawful possession of a syringe, a Level 6 felony, and possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, were dismissed as part of a plea agreement. Underbrink was sentenced to Jay County Jail for one year with all but 120 days suspended and was given 112 days credit for 56 days served. He was assessed court costs of $185, placed on formal probation for eight months and was ordered to pay a substance abuse program fee of $400 and a drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee of $200.

 

Possession 

A man pleaded guilty to drug-related charge in Jay Circuit Court.

Matthew R. Schlechty, 37, whose last known address was in Portland, pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine, a Level 5 felony. The court accepted the plea and dismissed an additional charge of possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor. Schlechty’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for Oct. 18.

 

Possession 

A South Carolina woman pleaded guilty in Jay Superior Court to a drug-related charge.

Rebekkah L. Freeland, 25, 136 Luden Drive, Apartment B, Summerville, pleaded guilty to unlawful possession or use of a legend drug, a Level 6 felony. She was sentenced to one year in Jay County Jail with all but 30 days suspended and was given two days credit for one day served. She was assessed court costs of $185, placed on formal probation for 11 months and was ordered to pay an alcohol and drug countermeasures fee of $200.

 

Possession, theft 

A Ridgeville man pleaded guilty to two charges in Jay Superior Court.

Kenneth D. Kelsay III, 26, 512 Gamester Court, pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a syringe, a Level 6 felony, and theft, a Class A misdemeanor. For possession, he was sentenced to one year in Jay County Jail with all but 82 days suspended and given 82 days credit for 41 days served. He was assessed court costs of $185 and placed on formal probation for nine months. Upon successful completion of probation, the court may reduce the charge to a Class A misdemeanor. For the theft charge, Kelsay was sentenced to one year in jail to be served concurrently, with all but 82 days suspended. He was given 82 days credit for 41 days served and court costs were waived.

 

Scheduled

Two jury trials were scheduled recently in Jay Circuit Court. 

Adam J. Heskett, 35, whose last known address was in Dunkirk, is scheduled to have a one-day jury trial on Feb. 3 for the charge of dealing a lookalike substance, a Level 5 felony. 

Jamie R. Heaps, 29, 403 Walnut St., Ridgeville, is charged with escape, a Level 5 felony. Her two-day jury trial is scheduled to begin March 19.
