Jay Co. to host Heritage in battle for Patriot Trophy

Last week at Lapel: A pair of fourth quarter touchdowns and a stagnant offense in the second half resulted in a 28-6 road loss to the Lapel Bulldogs. Rylee Huftel had 95 yards rushing, and Bailey Cox added 73 yards and the Patriots’ only touchdown. Lapel’s Josiah Scott had 175 yards rushing and two TDs.

Season leaders: Passing — Sam Dunlavy – 18-of-53 passing for 271 yards, one touchdown and six interceptions. Rushing — Bailey Cox – 119 carries for 578 yards and five touchdowns. Receiving — Cox – four catches for 78 yards. Defense – Kess McBride – 51 tackles, one tackle for loss.

Last week at Southern Wells: Heritage led 21-16 after the first quarter but didn’t score again in a 38-21 loss to the Southern Wells Raiders. Gage Pritchard had 119 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while Beau Bosler added 139 yards and one TD on the ground.

Season leaders: Passing — Parker Tracey – 46-of-114 for 452 yards, two touchdowns and seven interceptions. Rushing — Gage Pritchard – 98 carries for 481 yards and six touchdowns. Receiving — Chase Luginbill – 12 catches for 196 yards and two touchdowns.



Last season: Jay County ran for 492 yards in a 42-20 road victory against Heritage to keep the Patriot Trophy for the second year. Ryan Schlechty (195 yards), Trey Castillo (132)?and Michael Schlechty (122)?all set career highs for rushing yards in a game. Ryan Schlechty had four rushing touchdowns.

Game notes: This is the 10th meeting all time between the Patriot squads, and Heritage has a 5-4 edge in the series despite Jay County winning the last three years ... Both teams have yet to win a conference game, and the victor will finish sixth in the ACAC ... Jay County averages 6.3 points per game on offense and allows more than 39 PPG?on defense.
