Total loss

An unoccupied modular home in Redkey was declared a total loss after a fire early Wednesday.

Redkey firefighters were called to 301 E. Bell Ave. about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday. The house, owned by Richard Russel, was fully involved in the fire. Fourteen firefighters responded to the call.



Theft probed

Jay County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft a car battery and some scrap metal.

The theft was reported Wednesday morning by Joe Topp, Rossburg, Ohio.



School collision

Between $1,000 and $2,500 was reported in a two-vehicle accident about 3:25 p.m. Tuesday on Patriot Drive at Jay County High School.

Dylan L. Bland, 17, Portland, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was eastbound and leaving the school when the 2004 Chevrolet Colorado he was driving struck a 2006 GMC Envoy driven by Mark D. Habegger, 17, rural Portland.

The Envoy is registered to Neil and Margaret Habegger, rural Portland, while the Colorado is registered to Mary McShane, Portland.

No injuries were reported.
