Last week at Huntington North: Jay County’s defense unraveled on the opening drive in a 56-0 loss to the Huntington North Vikings. The Patriots, who were shut out for the second consecutive week, fell behind 42-0 at halftime and allowed 341 yards of total offense to the Vikings while only gaining 32 yards themselves and failing to cross midfield.

Season leaders: Passing — Sheldon Eley – 2-for-5 for negative-1 yard and one interception. Rushing — Quinn Faulkner – 10 carries for 35 yards. Receiving — Shawn Fisher – one catch for three yards. Defense — Kess McBride – 11 tackles and one tackle for loss

Southern Wells Raiders

Conference: Allen County

Last week at Blackford: Southern Wells allowed 37 consecutive points to start the game in a 37-7 loss to the Blackford Bruins. Blackford out-gained Southern Wells 223-53, and a majority of the Raiders’ yards came on a 45-yard Jed Perry rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter.?

Season leaders: Passing — Jed Perry – 2-for-4 for 2 yards. Rushing — Jed Perry – 30 carries for 206 yards and three touchdowns. Receiving — Xavier Walden – one catch for three yards. Defense — stats not available.



Last season: Jay County scored 27 points in the second quarter and 41 straight during a 51-19 win against Southern Wells in Portland. The Patriots had 491 yards of total offense, including 301 on the ground. Ryan Schlechty had 108 rushing yards, and quarterback Parker Grimes completed eight passes to seven different receivers.

Game notes: This is the seventh meeting between Jay County and Southern Wells. The Patriots hold a 4-2 margin in the series, including victories in each of the last three seasons ... The last time Jay County started the season with three consecutive losses was 2006, during which it went on to win five of its final six games of the regular season and the sectional quarterfinal ... Southern Wells is coming off three consecutive 1-9 seasons. The Raiders have lost 11 straight games dating back to last season ... Jay County is allowing 51.5 points per game, while Southern Wells surrenders 35 points per game ... John Harrell’s website predicts Jay County to win 45-10, while CalPreps.com has the Raiders as four-point favorites, 25-21.
