Dealing

A Dunkirk man pleaded guilty in Jay Circuit Court to a drug dealing charge.

Cameron W. Besser, 30, 209 S. Second St., pleaded guilty to dealing methamphetamine, a Level 5 felony. He was sentenced to the Indiana Department of Correction for four years with two years suspended, to be served on formal probation. He was given credit for time served from his arrest on May 24. Besser was assessed court costs of $185 and ordered to pay a drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee of $200. As part of a plea agreement, an additional charge of dealing methamphetamine, a Level 5 felony, was dismissed.



Possession

A man was sentenced in Jay Circuit Court to five years in prison for a drug possession charge.

Travis L. Stone, 44, no address listed, pleaded guilty on May 15 to possession of methamphetamine, a Level 5 felony. He was recently sentenced to five years in the Indiana Department of Correction and was given credit for time served from Oct. 12 to 13, 2017, on Oct. 18, 2017, and from Aug. 18. The court will consider modifying his sentence if Stone completes a substance abuse treatment program. He was assessed court costs of $185 and ordered to pay a drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee of $200. As part of a plea agreement, a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor, was dismissed.



Possession, violation

A man was sentenced in Jay Circuit Court for a drug paraphernalia charge and for violating his probation.

Nathaniel K. Cox, 27, no address listed, pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a syringe, a Level 6 felony. He was sentenced to Jay County Jail for two years and was given credit for time served from April 15. He was also assessed court costs of $185 and ordered to pay a drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee of $200. As part of a plea agreement, charges of possession of a narcotic drug, a Level 5 felony, visiting a common nuisance, a Class B misdemeanor, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor, were dismissed.

In a separate case, Cox was found in violation of probation on the original charge of dealing methamphetamine, a Level 5 felony. He was ordered to serve an additional six months of the sentence imposed on Sept. 11, 2018, to be served consecutively to the previous charge. He will return to probation for one year upon his release from the Indiana Department of Correction.



Scheduled

Two trials were scheduled recently in Jay Circuit Court

Aleix R. Parker, 31, 1957 S. 825 West, Portland, is charged with two counts of dealing a lookalike substance, Level 5 felonies. Her two-day jury trial is scheduled to begin on Dec. 30.

Adam M. Fisher, 20, 995 Peters Road, Fort Recovery, will have a four-day jury trial beginning Jan. 7 for a charge of fraud on a financial institution, a Level 5 felony.



Probation violation

A Ridgeville woman was sentenced to additional prison time for violating her probation.

Amy D. Bailey, 37, 106 S. George St., was found in violation of her probation on the charge of dealing a Schedule III controlled substance, a Class B felony. She was ordered to serve an additional two years of the sentence imposed on Oct. 15, 2013, and was given credit for time served from June 10 to 12, and from Aug. 1. She will return to probation upon her release from the Indiana Department of Correction.



Syringe possession

A Portland man pleaded guilty in Jay Superior Court to unlawful possession of a syringe, a Level 6 felony.

Steven R. Miller, 36, 4639 E 700 South, was sentenced to Jay County Jail for one year with all but 120 days suspended and was given 48 days credit for 24 days served. He was placed on formal probation for 245 days. As part of a plea agreement, charges of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, refusal to identify self, a Class C misdemeanor, and driving while suspended, a Class A infraction, were dismissed.



Leaving the scene

A Portland man was sentenced in Jay Superior Court for leaving the scene of an accident and for violating his probation.

Justin W. Stolz, 43, 618 E. Main St., pleaded guilty to failure to remain at the scene of an accident, a Class B misdemeanor. He was sentenced to Jay County Jail for 180 days with all but 60 days suspended and was given 60 days credit for 30 days served. He was ordered to pay restitution of $250 to Kimberly Brown. He was also placed on formal probation for six months and assessed court costs of $185.50.

In a separate case, Stolz was found in violation of his probation on the original charge of domestic battery, a Level 6 felony. He was ordered to serve an additional 60 days of the sentence imposed on Sept. 18, 2018, and was given credit for time served from Aug. 11.



Deception, violation

A Portland man was sentenced in Jay Superior Court for a deception charge and for violating his probation.

Corey A. Bellis, 24, 2284 W. Indiana 26, Portland, pleaded guilty to identity deception, a Level 6 felony. He was sentenced to 182 days in Jay County Jail and was given 182 days credit for 91 days served. He was also assessed court costs of $185. As part of a plea agreement, a charge of visiting a common nuisance, a Class B misdemeanor, was dismissed.

In a separate case, Bellis was found in violation of his probation on the original charge of unlawful possession of a syringe, a Level 6 felony. He was ordered to serve an additional six months of the sentence imposed on Jan. 31 and was given credit for time served since July 30. His probation was terminated unsuccessfully.



Possession

A Pennville man pleaded guilty in Jay Superior Court to a drug possession charge.

Jason L. Corwin, 47, 405 E. Lagro St., pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony. He was sentenced to Jay County Jail for 18 months with all but 290 days suspended and was given 170 days credit for 85 days served. The remaining time will be served on electronically monitored home detention. Corwin was placed on formal probation for 257 days, assessed court costs of $185 and ordered to pay a drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee of $200 and a substance abuse program fee of $400.



Probation violation

A Portland man was sentenced in Jay Superior Court for violating his probation.

Jesse D. Modesitt, 41, 925 N. Franklin St., was found in violation of his probation on the original charge of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony. He was ordered to serve an additional 210 days of the sentence imposed on Feb. 21 and was given 196 days credit for 98 days served. His probation was terminated unsuccessfully.



Sentence amended

A Portland woman’s sentence was amended recently to allow her to serve time on home detention.

Ana V. Perez-Cavanzon, 23, 128 E. Water St., pleaded guilty April 12 in Jay Superior Court to possession of a narcotic drug, a Level 6 felony. Her sentence was recently amended to allow her to serve the remainder of her one-year sentence on electronically monitored home detention.



Probation violation

A Portland woman was sentenced in Jay Circuit Court to additional prison time for violating her probation.

Dawn D. Golder, 47, 425 S. Bridge St., was found in violation of her probation on the original charge of dealing methamphetamine, a Class B felony. She was ordered to serve the remaining six years of the sentence imposed on Sept. 28, 2015, and was given credit for time served from May 2. She will serve her sentence in the Indiana Department of Correction.



Theft

A Muncie man pleaded guilty in Jay Superior Court to theft, a Level 6 felony.

Chad D. Cook, 37, 1005 N. Burns St., was sentenced to Jay County Jail for one year with all but 196 days suspended and given 196 days credit for 98 days served. He was assessed court costs of $185 and placed on formal probation for 169 days.



Strangulation

A Dunkirk man pleaded guilty to two charges in Jay Superior Court.

Shad M. Fields, 47, 444 N. Main St., pleaded guilty to strangulation, a Level 6 felony. He was sentenced to Jay County Jail for one year with all but 60 days suspended and was given 60 days credit for 30 days served. He was assessed court costs of $185, was placed on formal probation for 305 days and ordered to pay a domestic violence prevention and treatment fee of $50.

In a separate case, Fields pleaded guilty to invasion of privacy, a Class A misdemeanor. He was sentenced to Jay County Jail for one year with all but 78 days suspended and was given 78 days credit for 39 days served. He was assessed court costs of $185 and will serve 287 days on formal probation. As part of a plea agreement, charges of strangulation, a Level 6 felony, and domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor, were dismissed.

A separate charge of invasion of privacy, a Class A misdemeanor, was also dismissed.



Probation violation

An Ohio man was sentenced in Jay Superior Court for violating his probation.

Phillip E. Fetters, 30, 519 S. Brooke St., Greenville, Ohio, was found in violation of his probation on the original charge of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony. He was ordered to serve an additional 200 days of his sentence imposed on Oct. 31 and was given credit for time served from May 24. His probation was terminated unsuccessfully.
