Take the opportunity to learn about substance abuse.

Meridian Health Services will host Project SAFE from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Jay County High School.

The event is designed to “raise awareness of the dangers related to substance use and to educate and encourage children to make positive choices.” Educational materials will be available for families, and there will be vendor booths with interactive activities and give-aways.

There will also be inflatables, carnival games and refreshments. Entertainment includes Stars in the Park finalists at 11:30 a.m., the Jay County High School choir at 12:30 p.m. and Rupert Boneham, a veteran of the CBS show “Survivor” who has used some of his reality show winnings to help at-risk teens.

Tom Cherry’s Old Time Radio Show will present the comedy “Life with Luigi” at 3 p.m. Saturday at Farmland Community Center.

The event will also include a new episode of “The Happy Hoppy Hopper Show.”

Workshop scheduled

Darke County Genealogy will host its fall workshop at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 5 at Garst Museum, 205 N. Broadway, Greenville, Ohio.

Dana Palmer will be the featured speaker for the event. Discussions will include using ancestor.com, using Fold 3 for military research, reading German handwriting and Ohio genealogy.
