INDIANAPOLIS — The boys play a team they’ve beaten already this season.
The girls meet a foe who knocked them out of the tournament two years ago.
The IHSAA boys and girls soccer sectional tournament pairings were released Sunday night, and the Jay County High School boys soccer team will meet the Blackford Bruins in the quarterfinal round.
Jay County’s girls will open with Hamilton Heights.
The Class 2A Sectional 24 boys tournament will be at Yorktown, and it begins Oct. 7 as the host Tigers (7-7) meet defending sectional champion Eastbrook Tigers (6-5-1) at 6 p.m. The winner advances to the first semifinal at 6 p.m. Oct. 9 against Muncie Burris (6-6-1).
The Delta Eagles (8-4) and New Castle Trojans (8-4-1) meet at 5 p.m. Oct. 8, with Jay County (7-5) and the Blackford Bruins (1-11-1) set for 7 p.m. the same night.
The Patriots bet the Bruins 5-1 on Sept. 12.
Winners from Oct. 8 advance to the semifinal at 7 p.m. Oct. 9.
The championship game is slated for 2 p.m. Oct. 11.
Jay County’s girls (7-4) open Class 2A Sectional 24 at New Castle in the first game of the tournament at 6 p.m. Oct. 8 against the Hamilton Heights Huskies (7-2-4). The Huskies defeated the Patriots 2-1 in the 2017 sectional opener.
The winner advances to the semifinal at 7 p.m. Oct. 10 against Delta (8-6). The first semifinal, slated for 5 p.m. Oct. 10, pits host New Castle (3-10-1) against defending champion Yorktown (8-3-1).
The championship game will be 7 p.m. Oct. 11.
FR falls in five
FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s volleyball team dropped a five-set battle to the Fort Loramie Redskins on Saturday in a battle of top-five teams at Fort Site Fieldhouse.
Division IV No. 5 Redskins beat then third-ranked Indians 21-25, 18-25, 25-22, 25-16, 15-11.
Fort Recovery (15-3), which lost to Marion Local two days earlier, fell one spot to No. 4 after the loss to the Redskins.
Paige Fortkamp had 22 kills and 19 digs for the Tribe, which also got 17 kills from Whitley Rammel, nine kills from Paige Jutte and eight kills from Marissa Gaerke.
Rammel led the team with seven blocks, while Hope Wendel and Chloe Showalter collected 30 and 20 assists respectively.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team moved to 15-3 with a 20-25, 25-21, 25-21 win.
Lilie Luethold, Emma Kahlig, Grace Guggenbiller and Grace Klingshirn had seven kills each to pace the Indians.
