To the editor:

The Jay County Visitor & Tourism Bureau’s board of directors and staff commends our large amount of local supporters at the 17th Annual Jay County Fiber Arts Festival.

Built upon 17 years of success, this year’s festival resulted in another great event. Many local and visiting fiber arts enthusiasts enjoyed the festival at Jay Community Center from Colorado, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and throughout Indiana.

Located in both gyms at Jay Community Center, the Jay County Fiber Arts Festival provided festival-goers with an opportunity to visit a variety of vendors, demonstrators and the popular designated children’s activities area.

Many fiber vendors participated in this year’s style show. These vendors were interviewed during the style show as their sales items were demonstrated and featured among potential customers.

The addition of the sock crankin’ event at the festival was a tremendous new opportunity for festival-goers to learn about the fascinating process of fiber-based sock production directly from fiber artists. Thank you to Christina Coghill for organizing the sock crankin’.

Kate Larson was the internationally distinguished fiber artist featured at the festival. Larson spoke with many festival-goers about her passion for the fiber arts. Larson taught several fiber arts classes at the festival that were a huge hit among those who participated. Thank you to Larson for her years of supporting and contributing to the Jay County Fiber Arts Festival.

A big thank you to Marvin Gray, Walter Herr and Will Herr for all they did to provide festival-goers with a chance to learn about sheep shearing. A memorable experience was had by many as these gentlemen demonstrated sheep shearing with their wooly flock of sheep.

Mother Goose was played in character by Portland’s Sheron McClung, who did a superb job in her role. Within the children’s activities area, Mother Goose captivated the attention of youngsters of all ages. Children were entertained with traditional storytelling and sharing of rhymes. Thank you so much to Mother Goose for all your preparation and input.

Festival volunteers participated in managing a variety of tasks with a high degree of aptitude and professionalism. A special thank you to festival volunteers and partners, including but not limited to Cindy Murphy and family, Marie McKinley and family, Kenya Habegger, Rose Snow, Donnie James with Jay County Sheriff’s Office, and Kyle Cook and staff with Jay Community Center.

All festival volunteers and partners’ profound involvement and devotion immensely contributed to the festival’s success. Please consider signing up to join the festival’s volunteer team for next year’s 2021 festival by contacting the Jay County Visitor & Tourism Bureau.

An enormous amount of thanks goes out to festival demonstrators and partners: Jay Wood Carvers, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, Curt Burnette with the nature exhibit, Carl McDowell with the weaving demonstration, Arts Place Felting Group, Dick Reel with the woodcarving and spoons demonstration, John Lindsay with the spinning demonstration, Brian Aker and Jay County Fair Board, Jay Community Knitters and the Stitch and Chatter Quilt Club.

A tremendous amount of gratitude goes to Carla Loy, Millie Ellis, Shalee Myron and the Pennvile Festival Committee for managing the delicious food concession items at the festival. In addition, many thanks to WPGW, Portland, and WCSM, Celina, for your outstanding involvement at promoting the festival.

The generosity and support of the festival’s primary sponsor, Richards Restaurant, made a profound impact on our ability to offer this wonderful event. Thank you for bring a steadfast supporter of the festival
