LifeStream Services is partnering with The Leland Legacy to host virtual Dementia Friends Information Sessions on the second Tuesday of the month starting May 12.

The sessions will run from 1 to 2 p.m. via video conference.

In-person Dementia Friends Information Sessions have been canceled until further notice due to the threat of COVID-19.

A Dementia Friend is someone who wants to make a positive difference in the lives of people living with dementia through increased awareness and support. The Dementia Friends Information Sessions are intended to equip attendees with the knowledge to help make their communities a safer and more welcoming place for those living with dementia and their caregivers.

The sessions will be led by Amanda Corman, Admissions Director at The Leland Legacy in Richmond.

Dementia Friends Indiana initiative is an outreach of Dementia Friendly America. The initiative seeks to educate communities about dementia, break down the stigma surrounding dementia, and implement practical changes that make life easier to navigate for those with dementia and for their loved ones.



Donations sought

The United Way of Jay County is accepting cash donations for COVID-19 Relief.

Checks should be made payable to the United Way of Jay County.

These funds will go to agencies and organizations who are assisting those who are in need at this time for such things as food, rental assistance, and medical assistance.

Donations can be mailed to United Way of Jay County, P O Box 204, Portland, IN 47371. They can also be dropped off at the First Financial Bank’s night deposit box at 112 N. Meridian St., Portland, or either drive-up window or the night deposit box at CrossRoads Financial Credit Union.

Banquets canceled

The Portland High School Alumni Banquet scheduled for June 20 has been canceled.

Alumni gatherings for Redkey and Dunkirk High Schools have also been canceled.
