Capsule report
Gas line leak
A gas line leak in a cornfield Wednesday night led to some confusion over where the line actually led to and how to shut it off.
Jay County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting a gas line leak near county roads 200 South and 500 West at around 8:20 p.m. after workers from Marathon Pipe Line LLC accidentally caused the leak while they were working in the field, according to a sheriff’s office report.
Upon arriving, officers confirmed that it was a privately built line and local gas providers had no record of it, where it led to or how to shut it off. Hours later, the line was traced back to a nearby property and was shut off, according to a sheriff’s office report report.
