Swift Night Out set for Saturday

Taking note

Limberlost State Historic Site is offering a chance to get out Saturday night.

The site will host its Swift Night Out program, a family event about the chimney swift, at 8 p.m.

The event will begin with a presentation in the Gene Stratoon-Porter Room at Geneva Public Library at 8 p.m. Attendees will then take part in a “swift sit” in downtown Geneva to watch the birds in flight.

Families are invited to bring lawn chairs to take part in the program. Social distancing will be practiced, and masks are required in the library.

Admission is $1.50 for members and $2 for non-members.

Make a crane

Arts Place program “Flying in Place, An Artist's Response to COVID-19” is being launched by Mississinawa Valley art teacher Ashley Austerman in conjunction with visiting artist Kate Gorman.

On square sheets of paper, participants are asked to create a drawing on one side, then use the other side to express thoughts about the pandemic experience. Those thoughts might be in the form of a story or a poem or a list.

Then, following origami instructions provided by Arts Place, participants will fold the sheet into a paper crane.

Free kits for the project will be available at Arts Place beginning Monday.

The completed cranes should be dropped off at Arts Place by Aug. 15.

Then all of the cranes will be part of an exhibit on display from Sept. 4 to Oct. 4.

Participants must be 18 or old and registration is required.

Registration fee is $30. Those who are interested can sign up at cornerstonearts.org. For more information, call (765) 381-8781.
