Minnetrista cancels ‘Picnic’ and ‘Twilight’

Taking note

Two late-summer events scheduled for the fall at Minnetrista have been canceled.

Minnetrista announced this week that it will not be holding Twilight on the Boulevard or Picnic & Pops this year.

The organization referenced guidance from Delaware County Health Department, Indiana State Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in announcing its decision.

“It’s never an easy choice to cancel programming, but we considered both the needs of our partners and the health and safety of our visitors in our decision to cancel these two events,” said Minnetrista vice president of community engagement Lindsey Horan in a press release.

Picnic & Pops is typically held in late August, with Twilight on the Boulevard in mid-September.

Minnetrista’s outdoor areas are open, and the organization is hosting a farmers market from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.

Springer named

Jay County Historical Society’s board of directors held its first in-person meeting since March last month.

During the meeting, Nathan Springer was unanimously approved as a new board member. He replaces Jodi McKee, who had resigned her seat.

Deadline is Saturday

Arts Place program “Flying in Place, An Artist's Response to COVID-19” is being launched by Mississinawa Valley art teacher Ashley Austerman in conjunction with visiting artist Kate Gorman.

On square sheets of paper, participants are asked to create a drawing on one side, then use the other side to express thoughts about the pandemic experience. Those thoughts might be in the form of a story or a poem or a list.

Then, following origami instructions provided by Arts Place, participants will fold the sheet into a paper crane.

Free kits for the project are available at Arts Place.

The completed cranes should be dropped off at Arts Place by tomorrow, Aug. 15.

Then all of the cranes will be part of an exhibit on display from Sept. 4 to Oct. 4.
