Capsule reports
House egged
A Portland man reported about 3:30 p.m. Monday that his house had been vandalized.
Seth T. VanSkyock, 820 E. Race St., reported to the Portland Police Department someone threw eggs at his house. A few cars in the neighborhood were struck by eggs as well.
Theft
A Portland man reported Wednesday that his vehicle was stolen.
Ralph Homan reported to Jay County Sheriff’s Office that his White Polaris UTV was missing from 371 South 850 West. Homan believed the vehicle was stolen sometime Wednesday.
Vehicle fire
A Portland man reported his vehicle caught fire about 5:38 p.m. Wednesday.
Austin Hummer called for help to extinguish a fire in his 1985 Chevy Custom Deluxe. Eleven firefighters and two firetrucks responded to the scene and put out the fire in about seven minutes.
Too fast
According to a Portland police report, a Berne man attempted to drive a friend’s motorcycle and fell off about 7:51 a.m. Saturday in the Tyson Foods parking lot.
Jeremy M. Bond, 41, asked Kathy Nibarger to drive her 2019 Can AM Ryker. He said it took off on him quickly, and he fell off and skidded across the parking lot. The vehicle continued north until hitting a fence.
Damage is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Hit pole
A Redkey woman struck a utility pole with her vehicle about 5:56 p.m. Saturday in the Walmart parking lot.
Bonnie Logan, 19, was turning left in her 1998 Ford F150 when her dog obstructed her view, causing her to miss her turn and collide with a pole at 950 W. Votaw St., Portland.
Damage is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Backing up
A Portland man returned to find his vehicle damaged about 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Hines-Inman Memorial Stadium parking lot in Portland.
Randy Bedwell suspected another vehicle backed into his 2013 Chevrolet Silverado. The driver and make of the other vehicle are both unknown.
Damage is estimated to be less than $1,000.
