CENTERVILLE — Nearly two weeks after it took to the mat for the first time this season, the Patriots got to compete again.

They got their first win of the year.

Jay County High School’s wrestling team picked up its first victory of the 2020-21 campaign on Tuesday by beating Class A No. 3 Centerville Bulldogs 44-30.

Daniel Moore, a 106-pounder, got a pin of his opponent in 40 seconds for the Patriots, who opened their season Nov. 19 with a 42-30 loss to Hamilton Southeastern. Jayden Maymi (113) needed 101 seconds to get a pin as JCHS owned the lower weight classes.

Ethan Reiley scored a 14-6 major decision to get a victory at 120 pounds, and Tony Wood (126) recorded a second-period pin for his win as well.

At 170 pounds, Blake Pruett won a 9-0 major decision, and Ramon Bravo earned a pin 3 minutes, 22 seconds, into his 195-pound match.

Peyton Bennett pinned his 285-pound opponent in 1:33.

Conner Specht won by forfeit at 22 pounds.

Cameron Clark (132), Tyler Manor (138), Ian Ruiz (145), Cameron Gage (152) and Nate Paxson (160) lost their respective matches.

In junior varsity action, Lizzy Dollar got a pin 2:30 into her 106-pound bout.
