Deer hit
Three local residents drove into deer over the weekend.
Anna M. Gaskill, 54, Portland, was driving west on Indiana 67 east of county road 1150 West about 6:28 p.m. Friday when a deer ran across the road. She hit the animal with her 2005 Chevrolet Equinox. Shortly after the accident, Gaskill’s vehicle caught fire. Damage is estimated between $25,000 and $50,000.
Brylin R. Lee, 32, Hartford City, was driving north on Indiana 1 at the county road 200 West intersection about 8:30 p.m. Saturday when she hit a deer with her vehicle. Damage to the 2014 Ford Fusion is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
John G. Davis Jr., 35, Redkey, was driving south on Indiana 67 about 3:20 a.m. Sunday when he drove into a deer. Damage to his 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Canine crash
Two dogs were hit in Jay County within 20 minutes of each other Friday.
Connie C. Hosier, 66, Chesterfield, was driving north on Indiana 167 in Jay County near the Delaware County line about 7 p.m. Friday when she hit a dog with her car. Damage to the 2005 Toyota Prius (registered to a Terry W. Leist of Dunkirk) is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500. The animal ran away from the scene.
Serrena J. McCaffery, 23, Dunkirk, was driving east on county road 1150 West just west of Indiana 67 about 7:20 p.m. Friday when she hit a dog with her car. (The animal had minor injuries, according to a Jay County Sheriff’s Department report.) Damage to the 2016 Chevrolet Cruz is estimated under $1,000.
Backing accident
An Eaton resident backed his vehicle into another in a Bryant driveway about 7 p.m. Sunday.
Ethan C. Riddle, 17, Eaton, was backing his 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche into a driveway at 258 W. 650 North, Bryant. Riddle backed into the passenger side front panel of a 2012 Honda Civic registered to Marvin E. Troyer. Damage is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
