Santa coming to Pennville

Taking Note

Saint Nick will be visiting Pennville for a drive-thru event Saturday.

The annual visit with Santa hosted by several Pennville organizations will be conducted from vehicles this year for safety purposes during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Families can make several stops along the drive through Pennville Park, 235 E. North St., between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. The drive will include mailing letters to Santa, receiving a treat from Mrs. Claus and stopping at a handful of other booths for goodies. Visitors will also receive a list of participating businesses, some of which will be handing out snacks, and decorate houses for the Pennville Christmas Lights Decoration contest.

The park will be lit with Christmas decorations, with Santa Claus stationed at the end to wave visitors goodbye.

Bluffton lights

Ouabache State Park in Bluffton is hosting its annual Wonderland of Lights show nightly from 6 to 9 p.m. through the end of the year.

Admission to the drive-thru event is $5 and features a synchronized light show and over 40 displays throughout the route.

There are three different light shows: one on Mondays through Thursdays, another for the weekend and a special edition on Christmas Eve. Each show will take place at the park’s Fire Tower Plaza.

It’s tree time

The 16th annual Fort Festival of Trees is ongoing at the Fort Recovery Public Library until Dec. 30 during its regular business hours and features Christmas trees and wreaths decorated by Fort businesses, organizations and families.

Votes are being taken for the favorite, and whichever display secures the most votes will be crowned with the 2020 “People’s Choice Award.”

The library is open weekly from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Help is needed

LifeStream is looking for volunteers to help with efforts to brighten the holiday season through its AngelWish program for older adults who are isolated.

The program coordinates delivery of gifts to older adults in the 12-county area, including Jay.

Those interested in helping out can sign up to deliver gifts until Dec. 24 or make a monetary donation, both by visiting lifestreaminc.org/angelwish. Donations are also being accepted by mail at 1701 Pilgrim Boulevard, Yorktown, IN 47396.
