JCHS professionals qualify

Jay County High School students qualified for state competition in nine categories at the Business Professionals of American regional competition.

Qualifying for state were Trevor Alicea and Hannah Littler (video production); Samuel Bracy (advanced accounting); Isaac Braun (Python programming); Madison Brunswick (fundamental accounting); Dylan Burress (Python programming); Ralyn Chaffins (interview skills); Travis Garringer (business law and ethics); Grace Morgan (payroll accounting and advanced accounting); and Marissa Overla (advanced accounting and Python programming).

The state competition is scheduled for early March.



Scholarship offered

Helena Agri-Enterprises announced recently that it will award a $1,000 Helena HomeGrown Scholarship.

The scholarship is open to a 2020-21 high school senior who will pursue a degree in agriculture or science. The deadline to apply is Jan. 31, and winners will be announced by the end of March.

It’s tree time

The 16th annual Fort Festival of Trees is ongoing at the Fort Recovery Public Library until Wednesday during its regular business hours and features Christmas trees and wreaths decorated by Fort businesses, organizations and families.

Votes are being taken for the favorite, and whichever display secures the most votes will be crowned with the 2020 “People’s Choice Award.”

The library is open weekly from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. It is closed on Thursday and Sunday.



Bluffton lights

Ouabache State Park in Bluffton is hosting its annual Wonderland of Lights show nightly from 6 to 9 p.m. through the end of the year.

Admission to the drive-thru event costs $5 and features a synchronized light show and over 40 displays throughout the route.

There are three different light shows: one on Mondays through Thursdays, another for the weekend and a special edition on Christmas Eve. Each show will take place at the park’s Fire Tower Plaza.

Help is needed

LifeStream is looking for volunteers to help with efforts to brighten the holiday season through its AngelWish program for older adults who are isolated.

The program coordinates delivery of gifts to older adults in the 12-county area, including Jay.

Those interested in helping out can sign up to deliver gifts between until Thursday or make a monetary donation, both by visiting lifestreaminc.org/angelwish. Donations are also being accepted by mail at 1701 Pilgrim Boulevard, Yorktown, IN 47396.

Show continues

The Alcove Artists + Friends Holiday Show is on display at Arts Place in Portland.

Alcove, a group of visual and performing artists from Portland and the surrounding area, will have artwork in a variety of media on display. The exhibit runs through Wednesday.

It is open during Arts Place’s regular hours — 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday.

Hunters can help

Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry announced that it is continuing the “Meat” the Need initiative in which hunters can donate their large game to help local food banks.

Hunters who are interested in donating wild game (deer, elk and buffalo) can do so by visiting a participating processor, including Adair Processing, Fisher Packing and Wright Brothers Buckstop in Jay County. (Hunters should call ahead, as space may be limited.) There is no charge to the hunter.
