Survey deadline
Today is the deadline to complete legislative surveys online for Jay County’s state representatives.
Surveys for state Rep. J.D. Prescott (R-Union City) and Sen. Travis Holdman (R-Markle) are available online, respectively, at surveymonkey.com/r/RJNPDH8 and surveymonkey.com/r/Holdman2021 until the end of the day.
Questions in common on both surveys include topics about budget allocation and, appropriately, the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact.
The Indiana General Assembly will reconvene Monday for the beginning of the 2021 legislative session.
Frosted windshield
Damage was estimated between $10,000 and $25,000 after a Portland man drove a van into a pole Tuesday in Portland because his windshield was not fully defrosted, impairing his vision.
According to a Portland Police Department accident report, Brandon K. Conn, 36, only cleared a small part of the windshield on a 2014 Chevy Express he was driving. He was westbound on Lafayette Street when he turned the van into the parking lot of Pak-A-Sak, 1300 N. Meridian St., and eventually into a pole, which he said he could not see because of the low visibility of his windshield.
The Chevy is registered to RS Transport LLC in Celina, Ohio.
Changing hours
The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles in Portland is changing its hours.
Starting Monday, the branch located at 1314 N. Meridian St. will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. For more information about Indiana BMV branch locations and hours, visit IN.gov/BMV.
