Grant boosts arts at Limberlost

Taking Note

The Indiana Arts Commission has announced approval of 72 projects for the 2020 Arts in the Parks and Historic Sites program, including $3,000 to Arts Place to hold summer art enrichment classes at the home of Gene Stratton Porter at the Limberlost Historic Site.

The program is being made possible through a partnership with Indiana State Parks and Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites.

Arts in the Parks at the Limberlost will start in June through the end of July for children ages 6-12. Class registration fees are $5 per class with a $30 maximum per student. Scholarships are available for those with financial need.

For more information, visit artsland.org or call Arts Place (260) 726-4809.

2020 20s

Mark your calendar for Feb. 29.

Jay County Public Library is planning its first-ever Roaring 20s party to kick off the year 2020.

The dry event will feature live music, games, a 1920s costume contest and refreshments.

Tickets are free, and the event is open to anyone in high school or older.

Busy schedule

Plenty of activities are on the calendar for January at the Jay County Public Library.

On Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 4:30 p.m.,  the Jay County Health Department will make a presentation on emergency preparedness, always a good topic as we move into blizzard season. Advance registration is required. To register, call (260) 726-7890.

On Thursday, Jan. 9 from 3 to 7 p.m., folks are invited to try their hands as a Lego builder.

The movie “Abominable” will be shown at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10.

You can learn how to crochet a scarf at a workshop at 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 13. It’s free and there’s no need to register.

Wednesday, Jan. 15, it will be “Crafternoon for Kids” time again. This time children will be creating snowmen from 4 to 6 p.m. The event is free, but all children must be accompanied by an adult.

If your New Year’s resolutions are fractured, you can attend a family M&M tasting at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Then on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 10 a.m., it’s time for another Family Steam Lab. Participants will be creating snowball catapults.
