Suicide attempt
A Jay County Jail inmate is in stable condition after attempting suicide at the jail about 8:17 p.m. Monday.
The inmate was transferred to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital and will begin a behavioral health program, according to the Jay County Sheriff’s office.
Dog hit
A Portland man hit a dog with his car at 8:30 p.m. Monday on Boundary Pike near county road 450 South.
The dog caused an estimated $1,000 to $2,500 front end damage to the vehicle of Alex K. Lagenkamp, 27, Portland. He was driving his 2016 GMC Yukon.
Car hit by deer
A deer jumped out of a ditch and ran into a Portland man’s northbound vehicle on U.S. 27 at 3:00 a.m. Sunday.
Steven E. Lothridge, 38, was driving a 2018 Ford Explorer registered to Jay County Commissioners. The car received $2,500 to $5,000 in estimated damage.
Deer hit
A Portland man hit a deer on county road 100 North near Portland at 1:15 a.m. Monday. The 2014 Ford Focus being driven by Ralph D. Bowers, 70, sustained an estimated $1,000 to $2,500 in damage
Lori M. Grayson, 54, Pennville, was unable to avoid hitting a deer on Tyson Road near Charles Street at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday in Portland. Her 2014 Chevy Equinox sustained $2,500 to $5,000 in estimated damage.
