LAPEL — The Bulldogs took forfeits against Jay County’s top grappler.
Five more Patriots finished them off with pins.
Jay County High School’s wrestling team turned in a dominant effort in its second-to-last dual of the season, clobbering the host Lapel Bulldogs 56-24.
While Lapel took a forfeit against third-ranked 182-pounder Mason Winner, as well as Jayden Maymi (106) and Zakk Atkins (120), it couldn’t avoid Camron Gage (138), Nate Paxson (145), Blake Bruett (152), Ramon Bravo (195) and Braden McIntire (220). All five turned in pins for the Patriots, with Gage finishing off Charlie Pitcock in 1 minute, 42 seconds, and Bravo handling Killian O’Conner in 1:55.
Also winning matches for Jay County were Ethan Reiley (113) by a 17-1 technical fall, Garrett Mann (160) by a 7-1 decision and Jayden Maymi (106) by forfeit.
Tankers drop two
Jay County’s swim teams couldn’t keep up with the Tigers on Tuesday as the girls team lost 166-134 to visiting Yorktown while the boys lost 192-106.
The Patriot girls (7-2) won the opening relay and got a pair of victories from Ashlyn Dow, who was first in the 200 individual medley in 2 minutes, 21.08 seconds, and the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.94. Other top finishes came from Lilli Clemmons (1:08.47) in the 100 backstroke, Eliza Bader (1:01.34) in the 100 butterfly and Rachel Louck (134.5 points) in diving.
Justice Murphy was the only Jay County boy to earn a victory against the Tigers, taking the top spot in diving with 147.15 points.
East Jay falls
MUNCIE — The East Jay Middle School boys basketball teams each suffered losses Tuesday to Muncie Northside. The eighth graders fell 38-28 while the seventh graders went down to a 55-24 defeat.
Sam Myers finished with six points to lead the EJMS eighth grade squad, which slipped to 3-6. Luke Vormohr followed with five points.
Levi Muhlenkamp’s six points were the team high for the seventh grader Chiefs (2-8). Leighton Overton and Brenden Runyon added five points apiece.
