Kendal Garringer didn’t waste any time making an impact during her collegiate career. She jumped right in.

The 2019 Jay County High School graduate finished second and third in her events Saturday in her first meet as a member of the Manchester University women’s track team at Trine’s Sean Brady / Keith Turner Alumni Open.

In her opening effort in the triple jump, Garringer recorded a distance of 29 feet, 2.5 inches. She was the runner-up to St. Francis junior Emily Bluhm (31 feet, 6.5 inches).

Her third-place finish came in the high jump, where she was one of three competitors to finish at 4 feet, 9.75 inches. She had cleared every height to that point on her first attempt, giving her the No. 3 spot in the event.

Garringer’s effort helped the Spartans to a second-place finish among eight scoring teams.
