The Bader sisters were ready for the final home meet of the season.

Alex and Sophie Bader combined to win three events Saturday in the Ball State University women’s swim team’s 159-141 victory over Indiana State.

Alex Bader, a 2018 Jay County High School graduate, owned the breaststroke, taking the 100-yard event by more than two seconds in 1 minute, 4.93 seconds. She led a Cardinal sweep of the 200 breaststroke in 2:23.06 ahead of teammates Cailin Merck and Jenn Gillen.

She also teamed with Aspara Sakbun, Makenna Bottorff and Shelby Crist to win the 200 medley relay in 1:45.61.

Sophie Bader, JCHS class of 2016, won the final individual event she’ll swim in her home pool, fighting off teammate Gracie Saulman for the top spot in the 200 individual medley in 2:10.62. She was also fourth in the 200 butterfly and fifth in the 100 butterfly.

Vormohr, the Baders’ cousin and a 2016 JCHS graduate, took second place in the 200 backstroke in 2:08.62 and third in the 100 backstroke in 59.28. She joined Peighton Gilbert, Lexie McDonald and Sakbun to post a winning time of 3:32.43 in the 400 freestyle relay.

The BSU swimmers also competed Jan. 16 against Toledo, with Alex Bader winning the 100 breaststroke (1:04.83) and the 200 breaststroke (2:24.91) in the Cardinals’ 193-105 victory. Sophie Bader placed second in the 200 individual medley and third in the 200 freestyle, and Vormohr was fourth in both the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke.

Alex Bader also joined Audrey Schank, Crist and Aspara in posting a winning time of 3:51.14 in the 400 medley relay. Vormohr, Lexie McDonald, Aspara and Gilbert finished in 1:37.58 to take first place in the 200 freestyle relay.



Micaiah Cox

Made the shot that put the Defiance College men’s basketball team ahead for good Wednesday in its 99-95 triple overtime victory over Earlham.

Cox hit a 3-pointer with 42 seconds left in overtime to give the Yellowjackets (10-6) a 95-94 lead. Free throws by Sean Tyler and Jordan Marell sealed the victory.

The junior hit a pair of 3-pointers in the game as he shot 6-of-11 from the field and finished with 18 points. He also had seven rebounds and one block.

Cox grabbed two rebounds Saturday in Defiance’s 78-74 win over Mount St. Joseph.



Tyler Leonhard

Jay County – 2017



Went 2-1 for the Manchester University wrestling team Saturday as it competed in the Max Servies Duals at Wabash College.

Leonhard (165) earned a major decision victory by a 9-1 score over Millikin’s Gus Wheeler. His other victory came by a 5-1 decision over Dallas Miles of Kentucky Wesleyan.



Hanna Ault

Jay County – 2018


Tallied eight points for the Anderson University women’s basketball team Saturday in its 60-47 win over Bluffton.

Ault hit a pair of 3-pointers while also adding three rebounds, one assist and one block. She had four points, three rebounds and an assist for the Ravens (6-10) on Wednesday in their 65-63 loss to Hanover.

Fort Recovery – 2019


Turned in a top-three finish for the Tiffin University women’s track team Saturday as it hosted the Tiffin Dragon Open.

Will finished with a time of 11 minutes, 26.72 seconds, to place third in the 3,000-meter run.



Whitney Will

Came off the bench to score four points for the NAIA No. 11 University of St. Francis women’s basketball team as it knocked off fourth-ranked Marian 73-69.

Will made her only field-goal attempt and added a pair of free throws. She also had three rebounds, two blocks, one steal and one assist for the Cougars (16-4).

The junior totaled four points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal in Saturday’s 64-62 win over Spring Arbor.



Elise Gehle

Fort Recovery – 2019



Scored for the University of St. Francis women’s track team in two events at the Indiana Wesleyan University Indoor Invitational.

Gehle’s top finish came in the mile run as she placed sixth in 6 minutes, 9.07 seconds. She added an eighth-place finish with a time of 3:34.9 in the 1,000 run.



Robby LeFevre

Fort Recovery – 2019


Competed in a pair of events Saturday for the Fordham University women’s track team at the Penn 8 meet.

LeFevre’s best effort came in the 60-meter dash as he finished 15th in 7.19 seconds. He was also 24th in the 200 dash in 23.02.
