Three move on in ACAC tourney
Saxman’s 20 points lead scoring list for Jay Co. middle schools
The Chief girls are moving on. So are the Eagle eighth graders.
East Jay Middle School’s girls basketball teams and the West Jay Middle School eighth grade boys earned victories Monday in the opening round of the Allen County Athletic Conference Tournament.
The EJMS eighth grade girls rolled to a 52-34 victory over the visiting Adams Central Jets. The seventh grade Chiefs picked up a 28-13 victory.
West Jay’s eighth grade boys left no doubt, clobbering the Woodlan Warriors 52-32.
The season came to an end for the East Jay boys teams, the West Jay girls and the West Jay seventh grade boys.
The East Jay eighth grade boys basketball team suffered a 43-34 loss to host Adams Central. The seventh grade boys also fell, 44-19, to the Jets.
West Jay’s seventh grade boys closed with a 37-29 defeat against Woodlan.
Scores and stats for the WJMS girls team were not available.
Sophie Saxman poured in 20 points to lead the EJMS eighth grade girls squad to its victory. Bralee VanSkyock had 12 points, and Molly Muhlenkamp finished with eight points.
Natalie Carreno’s 10 points were the team high for the East Jay seventh graders. Meredith Dirksen followed with eight points, and Cassie Petro scored six points.
Parker Nichols and Jackson Edwards set the pace for the WJMS eighth grade boys with 19 and 17 points, respectively. Trevin Dunnington joined them in double figures with 10 points.
Ben Crouch had 15 points for the West Jay seventh graders in their season finale. Keegan Wasson added six points.
Wesley Bihn scored 11 points for the East Jay eighth grade team. Zac McAbee followed with eight points.
Levi Muhlenkamp had nine points to lead the EJMS seventh grade team. Eli Dirksen was next with four points.
