Monday’s deadline for parties to fill ballot vacancies came and went quietly, leaving just two local contested races for the November general election.
The deadline for any candidate to withdraw from the ballot is noon July 15.
Filing to run for Jay School Board begin July 22.
The Jay County Commissioner south district race will highlight the November ballot locally. Republican Brian McGalliard, who defeated Duane Monroe and Barb Street in the primary, will take on independent Bruce Counterman, who filed to run in late June.
Incumbent Republican Chuck Huffman chose not to run for re-election.
The other contested race at the local level will be for the three at-large seats on Jay County Council. The race features incumbent Republican Jeanne Houchins, Republicans Ray Newton and Matt Minnich and Democrats Josh Gibson and Judy Aker.
Incumbent Republican Cindy Newton finished last in the four-way Republican primary while incumbent Democrat Gary Theurer chose not to run for another term.
Republicans who will be uncontested in the general election are incumbents Jon Eads for circuit court clerk, Michael Brewster for coroner, Brad Daniels for surveyor and Paula Miller for treasurer, as well as Rex Journay for commissioner representing the north district and Gail Dues for superior court judge.
Journay beat incumbent Mike Leonhard in the June 2 primary while Dues topped incumbent Max Ludy. Daniels, who is seeking his seventh term, defeated challenger Jeff Hopkins. Eads, Brewster and Miller were all uncontested.
In state-level races, incumbent Republican J.D. Prescott and Democrat Julie Snider are vying for District 33 state representative. The winner will represent Jay and Randolph counties and part of Delaware County in the statehouse. For Democrat Woody Myers and Libertarian Donald G. Rainwater II are challenging incumbent Republican Eric Holcomb.

For District 3 U.S. Representative, incumbent Republican Jim Banks is facing a challenge from Democrat Chip Coldiron. The district includes Jay, Adams, Wells, Huntington, Allen, Whitley, Noble, DeKalb, Steuben and LaGrange counties and part of Blackford and Kosciusko counties.
