Janet Schwartzkopf, age 83, of Portland passed away Sunday, July 19, 2020, at IU Health Jay following a sudden illness.
She was born in Portland on July 17, 1937, daughter of Ora and Pauline (Ritter) Baldauf. She was married on May 10, 1956, to Lavine Schwartzkopf, and he passed away on March 10, 2018.
Janet had worked for Jay Garment, Almco Steel in Bluffton and Pennville Custom Cabinets. She was a 1955 Portland High School graduate, member of Zion Lutheran Church, Portland Moose Lodge, Women’s Life, Indiana Trail Riders Association and Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Association, and was an avid bowler.
Surviving are one son, Terry Schwartzkopf of Portland; one daughter, Becky Schwartzkopf of Portland; three brothers, Richard Baldauf (wife: Patricia) of Portland, David Baldauf (wife: Joyce) of Portland and Dale Baldauf (wife: Debbie) of Portland.
Funeral services will be Thursday July 23, 2020, at 11 a.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Martin Bornhoeft presiding. Burial will follow in the Salamonia Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to services.
Memorials can be made to Zion Lutheran Church or Jay County Cancer Society.
