Jay County 4th of July Committee announced this morning that it has canceled all of its activities for this year.
In a press release, the committee said it decided to not hold activities this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.
"This decision was a difficult decision to make," the committee, which is led by president George Patterson, said in the release. "However, the committee believes it is in the best interest of the community to cancel."
Activities canceled include the 4th of July parade in downtown Portland as well as the all-day activities and the fireworks display at Jay County Fairgrounds.
The decision does not impact July 4 activities in other Jay County communities.
