Vehicles collide
Two vehicles had to be towed away from Indiana 67 near its intersection with county road 200 West at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday after a Portland woman failed to stop in time before driving into the vehicle in front of her.
Emily N. Corn, 20, Portland, was northbound through the intersection in her 2013 Hyundai when Angela R. Moeller, 45, drove into the rear of her vehicle, resulting in an estimated $10,000 to $25,000 in damage.
Moeller was driving a 2001 Chevy Silverado registered to Matthew R. Moeller, Portland.
Deer hit
Two deer-related accidents were reported on highways Saturday in Jay County.
Robert I. Patterson, 21, Winchester, said he was unable to avoid driving into a deer while southbound on U.S. 27 just before its intersection with county road 700 South at 9:38 p.m. Damage was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000 to his 2002 Ford Escort.
A deer ran into the passenger side of a 2010 Chevy Silverado driven by Bernard T. Och Jr., 48, Spencerville, Ohio, on Indiana 67 near Tyson Road at 10:30 p.m. Damage was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Tire blows
A Michigan man’s car struck a city street sign about 6:20 p.m. Saturday after the car blew a tire.
Kevin R. Bryant, 33, Jackson, Michigan, told Portland police he was eastbound on Water Street, approaching Meridian Street, when the front passenger tire blew, causing the 2007 Cadillac he was driving to go out of control and leave the roadway.
The Cadillac, registered to Lori Pfeifer, rural Portland, sustained between $2,500 and $5,000 in damage.
Backing mishap
Between $2,500 and $5,000 in damage was reported in a backing accident in the parking lot of Circle K North about 11:25 a.m. Sunday.
Aaron W. Fennig, 38, Portland, was backing a 2016 Honda CRV when it struck a 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Tina M. Schofner, 52, Portland.
