Jay County High School track and field
MARION — It didn’t take long for Kinsey Shannon to break her own record.
Shannon, a Jay County High School junior, lowered her own mark in the 60-meter dash as the Patriot girls track team began its indoor schedule Friday at Indiana Wesleyan University.
The speedster had a time of 8.36 seconds to place seventh out of 34 runners. She edged Eliza Bidwell of Mt. Vernon (Fortville) by one hundredth of a second to win her heat. Shannon’s teammates Shea Bailey and Calli Stigleman were 14th and 16th respectively in the event.
In the 60 hurdles, Abby Benter placed third with a time of 10.51 seconds. She was six spots ahead of fellow Patriot Sara Hemmelgarn, who was also seventh in the high jump.
Freshman Gabi Bilbrey began her career by taking fourth in shot put at 33 feet, 9.75 inches. Kassidy Fennig was seventh.
Jay County’s 4x200 relay team of Renee Omstead, Ashlyn Dow, Bailey and Stigleman took fourth. Omstead, Shannon and Dow joined Natalie Wehrly to place fifth in the 4x400 relay.
Sophia Fugiett and Lydia Keihn joined Raven Weaver and Lillian Schmitt for fifth in the distance medley relay and teamed with Cheyenne Liette and Lindy Wood to take sixth in the 4x800 relay.
