State police probing shooting
Indiana State Police are investigating a shooting that occurred late Friday afternoon in Portland.
According to a press release from Jay County Prosecutor Wes Schemenaur, officers from Portland Police Department and Jay County Sheriff’s Office were involved in a “police action shooting with an armed individual” near the intersection of Alexander and Walnut streets in Portland. The incident occurred about 4:30 p.m. Friday.
The “armed individual” was transported to IU Health Jay with critical injuries, the press release says.
No additional information about the condition of the individual who was shot or the incident in general was available at press time Friday.
