Minnetrista has won an award of excellence from the American Association for State and Local History for “In My Hands, In My Heart.”

The project, developed by Minnetrista Theatre Preserves, tells the story of two young men working at the Ball Canning Jar Factory in 1928.

The young men make a discovery as they clean the factory floor: a jar molded with the crest of the Ku Klux Klan.

The show outlines the response to their discovery, exploring the historical perspectives and challenges of the time, as well as questions of personal integrity.

This year, AASLH conferred fifty-seven national awards honoring people, projects, exhibits, and publications.

Canceled

Cornerstone Center for the Arts, Muncie, has announced that due to the coronavirus pandemic the 34th Annual “A Taste of Muncie” scheduled for June 7 has been cancelled.

Full refunds for all ticket holders will be automatically processed.

Schedule shifts

Jay Community Center’s calendar has been undergoing serious revision during the coronavirus pandemic.

Plans currently call for the fitness center to reopen on May 26. A 5K run is slated for June 14, and senior programming is expected to resume on July 6.

T-ball is expected to start on July 11, and the deadline for registration is June 14.

The staff notes, however, that virtually everything is subject to change, depending upon guidance from the Indiana State Board of Health and the governor’s office.

Among the items still to be determined are 24-hour access to the fitness center, opening the walking tracks and gym, fitness classes, rentals and summer day camp.

The Mother-Son dance has been moved to May of 2021.

A number of fixtures on the community center calendar have had to be canceled entirely. Those include Boomer spring soccer, flag football and basketball as well as the men’s 5-on-5 league.

The annual Meeker Golf Outing will be rescheduled in either August or September.
