Motorcycle accident
A Portland man was taken to IU Health Jay without alerting authorities after crashing the motorcycle he was driving Thursday night on Boundary Pike near county road 300 South.
Robert P. Miller, 40, said deer running into the roadway and into the motorcycle caused him to swerve off the east side of the road and into the ditch. Miller, who was not wearing a helmet, lost consciousness as a result of the crash and was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Jay County Sheriff’s Office found the motorcycle, a 1996 Kawasaki VN800 registered to Paul W. Keen, Portland, the next day. It was tracked to Miller, who was responsive and able to detail what happened.
Damage was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
