A prayer event is scheduled for next weekend.

A Public Square Rosary Crusade for Conversion of America is slated for noon Oct. 10 at Haynes Park in Portland.

Those of all faiths are invited to attend. It is suggested that participants bring their own lawn chairs to the event.

Meet starts Oct. 8

Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Association will host its fall Swap and Sell Meet from Oct. 8 through 10 at the its grounds on Morton Street in Portland.

The event will feature a variety of collectors. Only antique engines, tractors and related parts will be allowed.

Admission is $5 for those 12 and older. Those 11 and younger will be admitted for free.

Pick-up available

LifeStream Services is offering curbside meal pick-up for older adults in Jay County who are isolated during the coronavirus pandemic.

The program serves those 60 and older. Participants will receive a box of five frozen meals.

Meal pick-up is available from 10 to 10:30 a.m. each Wednesday at Jay Community Center, 115 E. Water St., Portland. Meal packs must be reserved at least a week in advance by calling LifeStream at (800) 589-1121.

Classes offered

Arts Place is currently accepting registrations for ArtWorks classes in Portland as well as its centers in Blackford and Auglaize counties.

ArtWorks classes being offered in Portland this fall include oil painting, clay class (wheel throwing) for kids, clay passport open studio for experienced wheel throwers, wheel throwing for adults, basket weaving, chef apron sewing and machine-quilted nine-square Christmas pillow.

In addition to the traditional in-person classes, Arts Place will also allow some classes to be taken virtually. For more information, or to register, go to artsland.org.



Hosting hike

Limberlost State Historic Site will offer a guided tour of Rainbow Bottom at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Participants will join a naturalist for a hike through Rainbow Bend Park, which is in the area known to naturalist Gene Stratton-Porter as Rainbow Bottom and the setting for two of her novels. They will learn about plants, wildlife and the significance of the area to settlers and Native Americans.

Admission is $3.75 for members and $5 for non-members. The hike will cover 1.5 miles and the event is expected to last about three hours. Attendees are asked to bring a mask.
