Last week vs. South Adams: Jay County surrendered 21 points in each of the first two quarters in a 55-0 loss to the Class A No. 1 South Adams Starfires. SAHS?quarterback James Arnold was 10-for-10 for 226 yards and three touchdowns. Aidan Wanner recorded three total TDs, and Christian Summersett had two rushing TDs. Kadin?Ridenour led the JCHS rushing attack with 34 yards in the absence of Bailey Cox.

Season leaders: Passing — Sam Dunlavy – 13-of-55 for 279 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions. Rushing — Bailey Cox – 101 carries for 513 yards and two touchdowns. Receiving — Sheldon Eley – six catches for 199 yards and one touchdown. Defense — Rylee Huftel – 44 tackles, three tackles for loss and one interception.

Last week vs. Heritage Christian: Lapel had a chance for an upset of Class 2A No. 3 Heritage Christian slip away in the fourth quarter in a 41-19 loss to the Eagles in the Bulldogs’ final regular season home game. Lapel trailed 21-13 at the end of the third quarter. Brennan Stow of Lapel threw for 136 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. Tyler Dollar rushed 21 times for 101 yards and a TD.

Season leaders: Passing — Brennan Stow – 74-of-141 for 1,222 yards, 12 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Rushing — Tyler Dollar – 142 carries for 954 yards and 14 touchdowns. Receiving — Tanner Mroz – 29 catches for 529 yards and five touchdowns. Defense — Kyle Shelton – 65 total tackles, three tackles for loss and one sack.



Last season: A pair of fourth quarter touchdowns and a stagnant offense in the second half resulted in a 28-6 road loss for Jay County. Rylee Huftel had 95 rushing yards, and Bailey Cox added 73 yards and the Patriots’ only touchdown. Lapel’s Josiah Scott had 175 rushing yards and two TDs.

Game notes: This is the second meeting between the Patriots and Bulldogs, with the latter winning the previous matchup, 28-6, at home last season ... This is the final regular season home game for Jay County, which travels to Monroeville to take on the Heritage Patriots next week in a battle for the Patriot trophy ... Lapel averages 31.4 points per game offensively and allows 23.1 PPG to its opponents. Jay County, meanwhile, manages just six points per game — it has been shut out three times — and gives up 43.3 points per game ... Lapel sports a 52.42 Sagarin rating, which is 129th overall and 20th in Class 2A. Jay County’s 19.13 rating is 261st overall and 54th in Class 4A ... John?Harrell’s website predicts a 38-21 Lapel victory, while Calpreps.com has the Bulldogs as 35-point favorites (42-7) ... This year’s sectional tournament pairings show is set for 6 p.m. Thursday. It can be streamed on IHSAAtv.org and will be broadcast on affiliates of the IHSAA Champions Network.
