Rainwater best choice for Indiana

To the editor:

“Life, liberty, property and the pursuit of happiness as defined by you.”

That is the motto of Indiana gubernatorial candidate Donald Rainwater. Backed by the Declaration of Independence, I believe it should be the motto of every Hoosier this election season. I am going to lay out a case as to why I believe Donald Rainwater is the best choice for governor this election season.

Life — Donald Rainwater is pro-life. He believes that abortion violates the non-aggression principle, except in cases where the mother’s life is in jeopardy or the mother has been sexually assaulted. He also believes that the government should not use tax dollars to fund any private organization.

Liberty — Donald Rainwater believes in small and limited government. If COVID-19 has shown Hoosiers anything, it’s that a big government creates more problems than it helps to solve. Ronald Regan said it best: “The nine most terrifying words in the English language are: I’m from the government, and I’m here to help.” Between the mask mandates, which make no sense to the sensical Hoosier, to the determination from our current governor of which businesses are essential (oddly enough, big corporations) and which businesses are non-essential (to the detriment of small business). Donald Rainwater believes that it is the government’s responsibility to give information to its citizens so that they can make an informed decision about how to proceed. Mr. Rainwater also believes in the rights of business owners, meaning that if businesses want to require a face mask and refuse service, they have a right to do so.

Property — Donald Rainwater believes that property owners should be, well, property owners. Mr. Rainwater believes that if you have to pay the government to live on the property that you’ve bought and paid for, it cannot be considered yours. To this end, Mr. Rainwater will look to abolish the property tax on primary residences and end civil asset forfeiture in Indiana.

The pursuit of happiness — As Hoosiers and as Americans, we have the right to do what makes us happy without government interference as long as what makes us happy does not interfere with the rights of another individual. Donald Rainwater believes this and this is a core principle of the Libertarian party as a whole.

As defined by you — The greatest part about being an American is the right to choose your elected leaders. This election season, you have two choices. On the one hand, you have right Twix and left Twix in the GOP and the Democratic party (a phrase coined by Mr. Rainwater himself). At the end of the day, they are the same and both represent big taxes and big government. On the other hand, you have the opportunity for liberty, personal liberty.

This election season, I urge Hoosiers to cast their votes for a man who is pro-life, pro-second amendment, pro-law enforcement and (most importantly) pro-liberty. I’m voting for Donald Rainwater and I hope you will too.

I would also like to invite citizens from east central Indiana to West Jay Community Center on Oct. 24 from noon to 2 p.m. to hear Donald Rainwater speak and answer questions.
