Portland man facing felonies

A Portland man was arrested Thursday night and charged with four counts of child molestation.

Steven A. Boyington, 32, 6009 W. 400 South, is being held on $22,500 bond in Jay County Jail after his arrest Thursday night in Muncie.

The counts of child molestation are all Level 1 felonies. He allegedly had a month-long relationship with a 12-year-old Fort Recovery girl.

Boyington had evaded authorities for the past week, Portland Police Department investigator Jeff Hopkins said.

“This guy’s a real life boogeyman,” Hopkins said, adding that Boyington is accused of molesting the victim multiple times in her own home and at the Oakwood Mobile Home Park in Portland over the past month.

Boyington has an active warrant for his arrest in Mercer County for burglary and attempted sexual misconduct with a minor, according to a Portland Police Department press release.

The investigation was conducted by Portland Police Department in collaboration with Jay County Sheriff’s Office and Muncie Police Department.
