MUNCIE — Lydia Keihn earned her third top-10 finish in as many races Saturday in leading the Jay County High School girls cross country team in the Jim Leffler Memorial Cross Country Invitational at Muncie SportsPlex.
Jay County’s girls did not qualify for a team score, and the boys totaled 245 points for ninth out of 12 teams.
Keihn had a time of 21 minutes, 19.9 seconds, to finish seventh overall on the course the Patriots will return to for sectional.
Lindy Wood was 20th and Sophia Fugiett was four spots behind. Lita Chowning placed 61s.
Mitchell Winner was the top JCHS boy, placing 38th. Aaron Funkhouser placed 42nd while Isaac Kunkler and Logan Zimmerman were back-to-back in 54th and 55th, respectively. Dustin Harris was 61st to complete the team score.
Jay girls third
BERNE — Jay County Junior High School’s girls cross country team placed third during the South Adams Invitational on Saturday.
South Adams scored 53 to win, with Northfield (65) second and Jay County (113) third.
The host Starfires also won the boys title with 43 points. Parkway scored 64 for second and Northfield had 107 for third. Jay County’s total of 177 was seventh out of 13 teams.
Alexis Sibray was ninth overall to lead the Jay County girls, and Ayla Grabner was 10th. Paityn Wendel was 20th, Lauren Fisher placed 37th and Faith Faulkner finished 42nd.
Joseph Boggs led the Jay County boys by placing fifth. Gabe Pinkerton was 26th, two spots ahead of Creed Beiswanger. Seth Bee finished 55th and Max Klopfenstein was 70th.
