Last week at Bluffton: Jay County had four drives stall in the Bluffton red zone in a 48-7 loss to the Tigers. The Patriots’ Bailey Cox rushed for a season-high 184 yards on 26 carries and Caleb Hale scored on a 29-yard touchdown run. Bluffton’s Hayden Nern had seven total TDs, including six through the air.

Season leaders: Passing — Sam Dunlavy ­– 8-of-37 for 132 yards and three interceptions. Rushing — Bailey Cox – 87 carries for 428 yards and one touchdown. Receiving — Sheldon Eley – three catches for 80 yards. Defense — Kess McBride – 29 tackles.

Last week vs. Fairview (Ohio): Woodlan allowed 34 points in the first quarter and trailed 55-0 at halftime in a 69-0 loss to the Apaches from Ohio. Fairview quarterback Doug Rakes was 24-of-29 for 313 yards and eight touchdowns. Woodlan’s Jacob Snyder threw for 54 yards and had 55 rushing yards to lead Woodlan.

Season leaders (through four games): Passing — Jacob Snyder – 58-of-92 for 471 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. Rushing — Austin Stephenson – 12 carries for 64 yards; Jacob Snyder – 56 carries for 60 yards. Receiving — David Rogers Potter – 11 catches for 103 yards. Defense — Chase Bennett – 17 tackles.



Last season: Jay County turned the ball over five times in a 35-7 loss to Woodlan in a game that was postponed to a Saturday because of thunderstorms during its originally scheduled time. Bailey Cox had 61 rushing yards and the Patriots’ only touchdown, and he also caught one pass for 35 yards. Sam Dunlavy threw for a career-high 110 yards, but had three interceptions.

Game notes: This is the sixth meeting all time between Jay County and Woodlan, and the Warriors are 5-0 with an average scoring margin of 38-8 .... Woodlan coach Mike Smith is in his first year leading the Warriors after Sherwood Haydock, who led the team to two sectional titles and the 2017 Class 2A state title game, left to coach the Wayne Generals ... After three consecutive road games, Jay County returns home for three straight games as it hosts South Adams for homecoming Oct. 2 and Lapel Oct. 9 ... John Harrell predicts Woodlan to win, 31-28, while CalPreps.com lists the Warriors as 11-point favorites (35-24).
