Sidewalk policy
Fort Recovery Village Council approved a first reading of its new sidewalk maintenance policy Monday.
Council is updating its policy with revisions for clarity. The policy is intended to remove trip hazards along village sidewalks, beginning in 2022 with work on the west side of the village.
In other news, council:
•Heard Ambassador Pool’s last day open for the season will be Monday.
•Accepted the resignation of Joe Heitkamp from the planning commission –– he has been involved with the commission for more than 29 years –– and appointed Heitkamp’s son, Ryan, to the position.
•Rescheduled its first Sept. meeting to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 7.
Deer hit
An animal caused an accident on Indiana 18 about 5:50 a.m. Sunday.
Edward L. Bickel, 61, Portland, was driving a 2005 Buick Park Avenue east on the highway near county road 50 East when a deer attempted to run across the road.
Bickel told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was unable to avoid hitting the animal with his car, causing between $2,500 and $5,000 in estimated damage.
