Capsule Reports
Failed to see
A Portland man failed to see oncoming traffic at the intersection of county road 300 North and Division Road, causing a crash about 1:58 p.m. Friday.
Terry A. Sosbe, 66, was stopped in a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu at the intersection when he turned west onto Division Road. He didn’t notice the oncoming 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan, driven by 46-year-old Tonya K. Upp of Portland, going west on the road at the same time. Upp’s vehicle hit the back of Sosbe’s Chevrolet Malibu.
Both vehicles were towed, with damage estimated between $25,000 and $50,000.
Turning left
Damage is estimated between $10,000 and $25,000 after a Portland man turned in front of oncoming traffic on Meridian Street about 3:27 p.m. Friday.
Matthew A. Vore, 33, was in a 2001 Saturn driving south on Meridian Street and beginning to turn left on Votaw Street. He later told Portland police he believed he had a yellow flashing arrow and that the other lights were red. He turned in front of a 2015 Dodge Journey, driven by 68-year-old Diane S. Murphy of Portland, and the vehicles collided. (Murphy told police she was driving through a green light.)
Backing accident
A Redkey man backed his vehicle into another as he was leaving the Circle K parking lot about 3:50 p.m. Sunday.
Jesse A. Cooley, 24, later told Portland police he was backing out of a parking space at Circle K, 325 N. Meridian St., Portland, and didn’t see the 2006 Ford 500, driven by 20-year-old Elyse N. Bost of Portland, pulling into the parking lot.
Cooley’s 2005 Hyundai Elantra collided with Bost’s vehicle, causing between $1,000 and $2,500 in estimated damage.
