Capsule Reports

Unknown driver

Damage is estimated between $25,000 and $50,000 after an unknown driver crashed their vehicle into a utility pole about 3:50 a.m. Sunday.

A 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling east on Balbec Road just east of county road 950 West when it left the road and hit a utility pole. The pole snapped and fell into the ditch, and the Jeep veered back on the road and rolled on its top.

No driver was found at the scene of the accident, according to a Jay County Sheriff’s Office report.

The vehicle is registered to Jason D. McClain of Montpelier, and it was towed.

Failed to see

A Farmland woman failed to notice the vehicle stopped in front of her while driving on county road 400 West, causing a crash about 1:55 p.m. Wednesday

Catlyn R. Gray,  was driving a 2010 Ford Escape north on county road 400 West and approaching the intersection with county road 350 South. Gray wasn’t able to see the stopped 2017 Kenworth T880, driven by 67-year-old Daniel R. Timmerman of Fort Recovery, Ohio, because of the amount of dust in the air, according to a Jay County Sheriff’s Office report. Gray’s vehicle hit the back of the vehicle Timmerman was driving. The Escape came to a stop in a ditch near the intersection. Timmerman’s vehicle continued north and stopped in the northbound lane.

Gray’s vehicle was towed. The vehicle Timmerman was driving is registered to John Overman of Fort Recovery, Ohio.

Damage is estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.

The vehicle was towed, with damage estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
